Questions I get asked a lot

For cruises, packages, and most bookings, nothing extra. My pay comes from the cruise line or travel company, not from you, and you pay the same price you'd pay booking yourself.

The exceptions are multi-stop custom itineraries, destination weddings, and group trips you ask me to plan for you, like a family reunion or a club trip. They take a lot more planning, so they include a planning fee. I'll quote it up front, before you commit to anything. Joining one of my hosted group trips has no planning fee.

In most cases, yes. Sometimes it's better, because I have access to group rates and advisor promotions.

Usually a deposit to hold the booking, then a final payment due before you travel. The amounts and dates depend on the supplier. I'll give you both in writing and remind you before final payment is due.

It depends on the supplier and how close you are to the trip. Penalties usually grow as the departure date gets closer. I'll walk you through the cancellation terms before you book, so you know them going in.

I recommend it for every trip. By the time you leave, you've usually paid for most of the trip, and without insurance that money is at risk if something goes wrong before or during it. Your health insurance may not travel with you, either. It's always your decision, but decide early: some of the best coverage is only available if you buy soon after your first payment. For most international travel, yes, and it needs to be valid well beyond your return date. Some cruises that start and end in the US don't require one, but I recommend taking one anyway. The free checklist covers this.
